🐋 Welcome. 🐨 Here are the things that I have done or discovered
🐶 What did I do?
Looked back on my 2023 article 7 Subscriptions I Added.
It is strange to look back on and think of the changes, or even, what has stayed the same.
🙊 What the Quote?
“If you would not be forgotten, as soon as you are dead and rotten, either write things worthy reading, or do things worthy writing.“
🗨️ Benjamin Franklin
🙋 What is… Amatorculist?
A little insignificant lover; a pretender to affection.
“He was merely an amatorculist, offering empty promises of love.”
📰 Pieces of News
Astronomers Discover a Rare ‘Tidal Disruption Event’: A new study has documented a never-before-seen phenomenon where a star orbiting a black hole was slowly stretched out and essentially “shredded” over a period of years, rather than in a single catastrophic event. This slow, drawn-out destruction provides new data on how black holes interact with surrounding matter.
Global Seed Vault Gets Major Deposit of Wild Crop Relatives: The Svalbard Global Seed Vault in Norway received a significant delivery of seeds from various international gene banks. This deposit focused on “wild relatives” of staple crops—undomesticated plants related to things like wheat, rice, and potatoes—which are crucial for developing future, climate-resilient foods.
Experimental Drug Shows Promise in Fighting Certain Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria: Researchers announced positive results from early-stage trials of a new type of antibiotic that targets difficult-to-treat, drug-resistant bacterial strains, such as those that cause some serious hospital-acquired infections. The novel mechanism of action gives hope in the ongoing battle against rising superbugs.
🗺️ Where in the world is… Lake Hillier?
Western Australia
This lake is renowned for its vibrant pink colour, a phenomenon caused by the presence of the microorganism Dunaliella salina. The striking hue makes it a unique and picturesque destination.
🕵️ What did I find?
A Soft Murmur: A simple, elegant website that lets you mix and match different ambient sounds—like rain, coffee shop noise, thunder, and singing bowls—to create your perfect background noise for focus, relaxation, or sleep.
Neal.fun: A collection of small, fun, and often educational interactive websites and tools created by Neal Agarwal. You can do things like see the true scale of the solar system or “spend” Bill Gates’s money. It’s a great rabbit hole of simple entertainment.
Excalidraw: A virtual whiteboard tool that lets you create hand-drawn-style diagrams and wireframes. Its quirky, imperfect look makes it great for brainstorming, quick sketches, and presentations that feel more personal and less corporate.
